ANGO – Another City Now EP

How's this for a geography headfuck: Andrew Gordon Macpherson - who's from Nova Scotia, Canada (with a name like that?) - releases a 7 track EP of bold US R&B on Scottish imprint LuckyMe. The provenance of ANGO's debut EP is equally challenging to pin down. Luxuriant R&B and cinemascopic ballads set to house-friendly tempos would be the most succinct way to describe it, but it's a record far more concerned with expressing emotion than its musical proclivities. ANGO's plaintive cry on Better For You (please tell me / how is he better for you, better for you than me?) simmers with indignation and arrogance, and it does as good a job of expressing itself as the lush production surrounding it.
