Sacred Paws – Six Songs EP

Album Review by Chris McCall | 04 Mar 2015
Album title: Six Songs EP
Artist: Sacred Paws
Label: Rock Action
Release date: 16 March

Guitar, drums and two vocals; the Sacred Paws line-up couldn't be more straightforward. But their first proper release after being signed by Mogwai's Rock Action label is a bewitching mix. Rachel Aggs' spidery guitar sounds almost funky at times, giving the spontaneous snare fills from Eilidh Rodgers room to breathe. The quiet, almost hushed vocals on Vince are pure indiepop, but they pan in and out in an unsettling way.

The duo, both ex members of Golden Grrls, have played together for several years and it shows – no one track outstays its welcome, building to a crescendo around the 90 second mark and quickly taking its leave. The few people who have seen Sacred Paws play more than once in the past three years may feel familiar with some of these Six Songs, but to the majority this is a tantalising glimpse of a band who show real promise.
