Union of Knives - Violence & Birdsong

plenty of material to suit both airwaves and underground decks alike

Album Review by Chris Nordeng | 13 Oct 2006
Album title: Violence & Birdsong
Artist: Union of Knives
Label: Relentless
Whilst lending your ears to 'Violence and Birdsong', it's impossible not to be terribly amazed by the gigantic spectrum of talent produced from the west-coast portal that is Glasgow. Trademark indie-legends aside, Union of Knives sharpen the art-school indie fringe to bring forth a debut that not only impresses with its professionalism and musical perfection but also seduces you with its dreamy electronic soundscapes, which approach shoegazing proportions. Once play is pressed, a wonder of electronic music is commenced, equal doses trip-hop, electro-disco and chilled out lounge-electro infuses 'Violence and Birdsong' with enough surprising elements to provide a highlight around every corner. This could definitely set itself up among the industry's greatest in the near future since there's plenty of material to suit both airwaves and underground decks alike. [Chris Nordeng]
