I can't imagine this album ever saving a life. Oh, it's got heartbeat – these soft and starry pop-songs will carry you through that early romance, into the first mix-tape. But if you're in crisis, if you need a spark to revive a failed heart: look elsewhere. Love has forgotten everything he learned in the NYC hardcore scene. He's traded in that brutal intensity, the spontaneity and physical surprise, for a sweet melodic ear. No, there's nothing shocking here. But the lulls are lovely indeed. The Only Night has rightfully drawn Radio 1's attention with its shades of Damien Rice, Josh Rouse and Chris Martin, all murmurs and guitar with little twinkles of electronics. Butterfly and It's Not Over are at least as pretty – bland, certainly, but very good. They're just the thing to carry you through a night already too full with feeling. Just the thing to usher you safely into sleep. [Sean Michaels]
