The Fucking Champs - VI

To be this good takes ages.

Album Review by Dave Kerr | 11 May 2007
Album title: VI
Artist: The Fucking Champs
Label: Drag City
Do you recall the utter glory you basked in that first time you completed Alex Kidd in Miracle World? You remember; that bastardly hazard filled Sega saga of fire-spitting monkeys and bug eyed end-of-level baddies. The Skinny spent months in the cupboard under the stairs playing that bastarding game. Well VI sees The Fucking Champs blaze their way through the kind of tunes you'd expect to hear at the party in the arcade after such a well earned triumph. But let's be clear: these rollicking nuggets of victory rock- from The Loge to Column of Heads - demonstrate the same shameless guitar wankery that the Champs have been, pardon the pun, effortlessly pulling off for copious moons now. There's no denying their prestige as high priests of the riff. Think Thin Lizzy on crack or Megadeth on a little less, but with a tongue occasionally jabbing at the cheek. Any way you want to cut it, to be this good takes Fucking ages. [Dave Kerr]
