Demon's Claws - Satan's Little Pet Pig

The spirit of Robert Johnson jamming with Jon Spencer

Album title: Satan's Little Pet Pig
Artist: Demon's Claws
Label: Red Records
Banging down the door of their garage with amps turned up and their tongue firmly in their cheeks are Montreal's Demon's Claws. Taking the effort to channel the spirit of Robert Johnson with the flare of Jon Spencer is no mean feat - but you'd think they'd have tuned their instruments first. Conjuring visions of open roads and blue skies; it's roof down, foot to the floor breakneck stuff but someone's cut the brakes and that cliff is fast approaching. Pausing for breath before sliding over the edge, this soon feels like play faster, scream louder and hopefully no one will notice material. Satan's Little Pet Pig holds the attention for a while but ultimately once the initial thrill of the ride is over, you might well be left wondering why you're not strapped in. [Garry Thomson]
