Album title: A Lincolnshire Echo
Artist: Adam S Leslie
Label: Self Released
A Lincolnshire Echo is the creative outpouring of singer-songwriter Adam S Leslie. Bursting to life in a swirl of psychedelic organ and phased vocal effects it has a sound that is straight out of the sixties. The weird and wonderful world described in its lyrics harks back to the whimsical and fantastic tales of Ogden's Nut Gone Flake, albeit without the mellifluous narrative of Professor Stanley Unwin. The songs display a mischievous and crooked sense of humour and Leslie clearly knows how to put together a memorable ditty. Unfortunately the dated sound of the record, although truly faithful, seems to drain the songs of some of the immediacy and spark that they would otherwise possess. As a study in sixties pop music it is a singular success but runs the risk of capturing nothing more than a passing interest from anyone other than the most staunch of sixties revivalists.
