Morning After Girls - Shadows Evolve

The perfect accompaniment to a lazy day

Album Review by Suzanne Mitchell | 15 Jul 2006
Album title: Shadows Evolve
Artist: Morning After Girls
Label: Best Before
Having toured with BRMC and the Dandy Warhols, Australia's Morning After girls are carving out a respectable reputation for themselves and with their debut LP it's easy to see why. Despite obvious comparisons to the likes of Sonic Youth, Velvet Underground and the aforementioned Dandys, 'Shadows Evolve' is essential listening. Crammed full of catchy, chilled out tracks, it's the perfect accompaniment to a lazy day. The simple but effective rhythms, funky harmonicas, jangling tambourines and perfect 12-string guitars contribute to an overall psychedelic ambience. Although not completely unique, this album shows the potential these guys, and girl, have as musicians. Definitely a band to watch out for this year. [Suzanne Mitchell]

Shadows Evolve' is out on July 3.
