This self-titled release by Mt Wilson Repeater leaves you feeling sun-drenched and satisfied - nothing less than should be expected from a solo effort by Radar Bros man Jim Putnam. Recorded at Putnam’s Skylab studio, the record is smooth in production quality though there's enough honesty and roughness in the songs to give the album character. Utilising delicate, rippling piano, the odd piece of sampling and sparse but poignant vocals, this is indie-folk to be respected. Island In The Sun is understatedly beautiful, layered with ethereal vocal harmonies that meld with the tune snugly. All Night, Every Day is simple and fragile with its electric drum-machine beats and hand-claps pulsating throughout track, flowing seamlessly into the synth-tinged The Conversation. Putnam possesses a lyrical depth that wonderfully complements his subtle and tantalizing music and he knows how to craft a melody. This is a California-tinged meditation that lives up to expectations. [Lauren Mayberry]
