Album title: Moving With The Shakers
Artist: Joey Negro & The Sunburst Band
Label: Z Records
Release date: 12 May 2008

Taking time out from his more chart-friendly production work that’s earned him hits with American Dream and Make A Move On Me, Joey Negro serves up a more organic, boogie-driven, disco-funk concoction here. Featuring vocalists such as Harlem soul legend Leroy Burgess, Diane Charlemagne and Chaka Khan’s sister, Taka Boom not to mention full-time frontman Pete Simpson, Negro takes his production and song-writing inspiration from such acts as Earth, Wind and Fire, D-Train and Maze for his Sunburst Band’s third album, Moving With The Shakers. Sing-along, discofied anthems such as Our Lives Our Shaped, Sitting On Top Of The World and Days Gone By as well as a slinky take on David Bowie’s Fashion sit nicely alongside more down-beat instrumentals Shabadowah, Dusk and Freebass, not to mention a handful of slower, soulful numbers in a combination that’s the perfect soundtrack for summer.
