Slam - No One Left To Follow

The attention to build on both tracks shows competent understanding of what the modern techno dancefloor requires, while maintaining enough hooks to keep bodies moving.

Single title: No One Left To Follow
Artist: Slam
Label: Soma

The second single to come from Slam's fourth album, Human Response, is a relatively chilled minimal affair for the techno outfit: featuring vocals from label-mate My Robot Friend, who tones down the trademark zaniness for deep, reverberated vocals. It smacks of conversations pulsing down the phone line, picking up warbling synth and muted beats on its travels. AA-side We're Not Here steps up the bpm to let the synths throw forward unnerving jitters, while simultaneously carrying somnifacient rhythms - that's not to say that you'll be doing any sleeping whilst listening to the track, unless you're planning to dream some spectacular hallucinations. Perhaps drawing inspiration from whale song, deep flowing samples are joined by head-scrambling electronics. The attention to build on both tracks shows competent understanding of what the modern techno dancefloor requires, while maintaining enough hooks to keep bodies moving. [Alex Burden]
