Just Jack - Starz In Their Eyes

teenage rhymes, poppy dance beats and crass social commentary: over-produced, manufactured agit-prop

Following Mike Skinner and Lily Allen, there is apparently a school of British storytelling: teenage rhymes, poppy dance beats and crass social commentary. Just Jack is the latest addition, with a theatrical London accent and jaunty ska guitar. 'Starz In Their Eyes' is an amiable castigation of celebrity culture: the harsh condemnation contrasts uncomfortably against the happy tune, and Jack's rap interlude suggests a genuine misunderstanding of hip-hop. Regardless of Jack's minor talent for memorable hooks, this is over-produced, manufactured agit-prop, as the record companies desperately attempt to replicate the successful formula of complaint that is danceable.
