A permanent collection of some of the most important pieces in the history of pop and rock, The British Music Experience opens this March in the Grade II-listed Curnard Building in Liverpool.

Promising to provide an interactive journey through popular music from the end of WWII to the present day, the exhibition will show historic artefacts linked to everyone from The Beatles to Adele, including several outfits from throughout David Bowie's career, Spice Girls costumes and iconic Britpop memorabilia such as Noel Gallagher's Epiphone Union Jack Sheraton guitar.

Other items on display include Buddy Holly’s famous ‘London Fog’ jacket, his Lifetime Achievement Grammy award and original programmes and ticket stubs from Buddy Holly and The Crickets' 1958 UK tour, along with more modern pieces like handwritten lyrics from Adele and Coldplay, plus instruments owned by the Arctic Monkeys and Robbie Williams. And of course, being in Liverpool, you'll also find a large number of Beatles items such as fan letters, bubble gum cards and plates.

Along with historic memorabilia, the exhibition will also offer visitors the chance to get hands-on, with opportunities to learn popular dance crazes from across the decades, play a range of Gibson guitars, attempt to put together their own mix in a state-of-the-art studio simulation or watch pop-up live shows.

Opens 9 Mar, The Curnard Building, Liverpool
