Mugstar unveil Flemish Weave video ahead of new LP

Liverpool psych rockers return with double album Magnetic Seasons in March – they provide a sneak peak at what's in store with the video for new track Flemish Weave.

Directed by legendary rock photographer Steve Gullick – famed for his images of Nirvana, Nick Cave and more – the video provides a suitably woozy framework for a track that's somewhat lighter of touch than their usual blast of deafening drone. Magnetic Seasons was recorded at Whitewood Studios in their hometown of Liverpool, and sees the band widening their sonic palette while maintaining the intensity of their ferocious live shows.

Mugstar explain the new track as follows: “Flemish Weave has three different parts. The first is a gently played guitar-picked texture which dies away and dives into a total wig out. It ends with a free-improvised noise melodica section. We think this song represents the main elements of the rest of the record.”

Magnetic Seasons is released on 4 March by Mogwai's Rock Action Records, who also released The Esthetik of Destructionthe sole LP by Mugstar affiliates Kling Klang in 2007. It marks Mugstar's first full-length release since setting up their own God Unknown stable in 2014, who recently put out the debut album by fellow Scouse experimentalists Cavalier Song.

The band play an album launch show at London's Electrowerkz on 26 February before heading to Europe on tour. Watch the video for Flemish Weave here, and read the track listing for Magnetic Seasons below:
