Massive Attack's 3D unveils climate change film

3D of Massive Attack has unveiled a new short film taking on the role of fossil fuel companies in climate change as world leaders meet to discuss the issue at a UN conference in Paris.

La Fête est Finie (The Party is Over) stars Fiona O’Shaughnessy (Utopia) and Natasha O’Keeffe (Peaky Blinders, Sherlock), with 3D and Young Fathers collaborating on the film's intense, rhythmic original score. The Edinburgh-based trio, whose most recent LP White Men are Black Men Too features in our top ten albums of 2015 list, will join Massive Attack on their European tour next year. The film was created by 3D, film-maker Joe Morris, and the former Independent and Guardian journalist Mark Donne.

In a statement to introduce the film, 3D and Donne told The Guardian: “As with any party, the skill is in knowing when to leave. For decades fossil fuel extracting trans-nationals and western governments have continued to dance and partake long after the bright lights of climate science evidence were switched on and the deafening music of denial had its plug pulled.”

In addition to La Fête est Finie, 3D also provided the score to site-specific artwork The Standing March from French artist JR and The Wrestler director Darren Aronofsky. The Standing March saw 500 faces projected onto the French National Assembly Building ahead of the Paris Climate Change Conference or COP21. The conference, which opened on Monday, aims to create a legally-binding agreement on countries to reduce their carbon emissions.

Massive Attack and Young Fathers play Glasgow O2 Academy (22 Jan 2016), Leeds O2 Academy (27 Jan), and the Manchester Apollo (28 Jan).
