Exit Verse – Grant No Glory: Album Premiere

Stream the second album by Exit Verse, as former Karate frontman Geoff Farina returns with a second LP of prime indie rock

Few expected Geoff Farina to resurface in 2014 with the spacious power trio shimmy of Exit Verse, but that year's debut album was a triumph – and now they're back with the superb follow-up Grant No Glory. The album's released on 25 November, but we've got an exlusive stream for you to treat your ears to right now!

One of the most idiosyncratically gifted guitarists of the 90s indie explosion that swept the US, Farina had his first brush with fame through his work with Boston three-piece Karate. Between 1993 and 2005, they carved their own niche within a post-hardcore landscape that increasingly sought to push past the limitations of genre and style, turning in three vital albums of jazz-tinged, post-rock-inflected explorations in the process.

Following their dissolution, Farina worked on other projects such as Glorytellers and a collaborative blues duo with former Come guitarist Chris Brokaw, but it wasn't until 2013 that he was bitten by the bug that urged him to return to the rock trio format. Inbetween solo tours, collaborations and bouts of teaching music history and theory at DePaul University, he teamed up with fellow Chicagoans John Dugan (ex-Chisel) and Pete Croke (ex-Brokeback) to form Exit Verse – and now here they are with album number two, which you can hear for yourself below.

"It’s the first (and hopefully the last) rock record I’ve ever mixed myself," says Farina of Grant No Glory, "although I’m psyched about the way it sounds, especially the vinyl.

"Since [the US Presidential election] I’ve been thinking a lot about This Machine. It’s an autobiographical song about discovering both my musical and political identity as a teenager in the Reagan era. I hope there are a lot of kids thinking about starting punk bands right about now."

Grant No Glory is released via Ernest Jenning Record Co. on 25 Nov
