C Duncan, a multi-instrumentalist trained at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, played all of the instruments on his self-recorded debut LP Architect, released on Fat Cat earlier this year.

Describing the process behind the album to The Skinny earlier this year, Duncan said: "It was me just using whatever stuff I had in my bedroom.

"All my spare time I just spent doing that; I had real highs and lows, because obviously I was kind of isolated for a year."

Also on the shortlist for this year’s award are London-based rapper Ghostpoet’s new album Shedding Skin, Wolf Alice's debut LP My Love Is Cool, and In Colour by Jamie xx. Last year's Mercury Prize was won by Edinburgh trio Young Fathers for their full-length debut LP Dead

The winner of the Mercury Prize 2015 will be announced on Friday 20 Nov.
