Belgrave and Super Friendz launch Collaborationz
A series of joint projects begins with a 16-track mixtape, produced with Youth Club Sounds
The teams at Leeds venue Belgrave Music Hall and local promoters Super Friendz are teaming up for a series of collaborative projects, inviting the North's finest independents to join them.
Following a successful 2016, the Collaborationz project will see the two teams partnering with record label Youth Club Sounds, Welcome Skate Store and Alphabet Brewing Co., producing limited edition products that will be available for one month only. News regarding these collaborations will be announced quarterly.
The first fruit of their endeavours is a 16-track mixtape, produced alongside Youth Club Sounds and featuring a diverse array of Leeds talent including Galaxians, Krrum, Caro, Harris Hameed and Hulahli.
"Having the opportunity to work with Super Friendz has been immense," says Youth Club Sounds' Robbie Russell. "They're always willing to commit to pushing the Leeds scene and given local talent a stage to cut their teeth on. This release is about showing the city off, condensing the best of Leeds' new wave onto a nicely packaged cassette tape."
The Super Friendz / Youth Club Sounds Mixtape will be available from Crash and Jumbo Records in Leeds and available for streaming via Soundcloud from 28 January – read the full tracklist below.
"Leeds has always had praise heaped on its guitar music," says Super Friendz' head booker Ben Lewis, "but right now there’s a really exciting scene of producers, multi-instrumentalists and MCs. What we’re doing with this mixtape is wanting to shine a light on some of these artists and the forward-thinking, progressive music they’re making.
"We’ve teamed up with Youth Club Sounds to help curate the tape as they’ve been at the forefront of pushing Leeds’ nightlife in the last few months and have really nurtured a stable of artists, many of whom can be found on this mix."
