Liverpool-based singer, songwriter and producer XamVolo blends UK R'n'B, neo-soul, funk and jazz and has drawn comparisons to the likes of D'Angelo and Anderson .Paak. With his debut EP A Damn Fine Spectacle due for release tomorrow, we're delighted to be premiering the latest single to be taken from it, Cathedrals; you can listen to the track in the Vevo player below.

Predictably funky, Cathedrals' infectious groove is accompanied by an impressive vocal performance from XamVolo. The track completes the story of the upcoming concept EP, which tells a neo-noir story of a young girl who finds herself confronted with a hive containing a black honey substance that can grant her every desire. The EP serves as a promising taste of what's to be expected from XamVolo's debut album All the Sweetness on the Surface, due out later this year via Universal.

“Cathedrals sums up the events of the EP – after the character realises the challenges of the lifestyle she was aspiring towards weren’t worth the effort, she’s torn," says XamVolo. "At the end of it, her identity is almost nonexistent. It’s a messy thought process as she makes sense of it all.”

“Working with Maths Time Joy was a vibe," he continues. "I like his style and the track came together pretty quickly – he’s got a distinct colour to his production which rounds it off nicely.” Listen to the track in the player below (Can't see the player? Click here to go to the full webpage).

Cathedrals is released on 13 Apr; A Damn Fine Spectacle is released 13 Apr, both via Universal
