Tinderbox Orchestra – Tinderbox (Album Premiere)

Feature by Music Team | 30 May 2017

Hot on the heels of their two singles Quetzalcoatl and Bethany Lane, the Tinderbox Orchestra are back to celebrate the release of their self-titled debut album. Having worked with thousands of young musicians and composers across Scotland over the last seven years, Tinderbox sees the orchestra bring together over 200 16-25 year olds, who share composing, arranging and performing duties.

The release of Tinderbox sees this precocious Edinburgh collective take another step out from the underground and onto the national stage. Given it’s a collective effort, it’s perhaps unsurprising that such a remarkable number of genres get explored. Since their inception in 2010, the orchestra has gathered together an international cast of collaborators, run award-winning productions and performed for the Dalai Lama. This genre-defying record stands as testament to that extraordinary story.

The Skinny are delighted to be premiering the album ahead of its general release on 4 Jun. Orchestra member Amanda Currie tells us: “Making the Tinderbox album was the most incredible undertaking for a group of this size. Being in a studio as well equipped as Castlesound was the most amazing experience, especially with sound maestro Garry Boyle at the helm; it was really cool to see our tunes get properly refined into the tracks that they have become. The final product is totally epic!”
