Sweet Tempest – Colourful Rain: Track Premiere

Listen to the new track from the Danish dream pop duo

Feature by The Skinny | 10 Mar 2017

The new track from Sweet Tempest – the Danish synth pop outfit comprised of Julian Winding and Luna Kira – is, according to the band, "about enjoying life to the fullest with a loved one, regardless of whether they exist or not."  You may recognise the pair's sound from the soundtrack to Nicolas Winding Refn's dark and twisted LA fashion scene drama The Neon Demon, which featured the duo's track Mine, with Winding also soundtracking one of the film's nightclub scenes.

Colourful Rain is an altogether woozier and less blood-soaked affair than their Neon Demon work, with a neat bassline and charming vocals that bring to mind the likes of Au Revoir Simone and Chairlift. Listen to Colourful Rain in the player below.

Describing the making of the track, the duo say they followed their usual pattern when it came time to put the track together: "We sat down and got serious, really went for it and didn't feel what we were making.

"Then Julian pulled out his mini keyboard and we started improvising in the kitchen. Luna threw some melodies on it, and before we knew it we had a song. It seems that whenever we focus on a particular direction, we hit a wall, but when we decide to relax and just let circumstances sweep us away, we get exactly what we're looking for."

Colourful Rain is out on 17 Mar; Sweet Tempest's Bones and Machinations EP is out on 7 Apr via Cicada Music.
