Since being selected for Creative Scotland’s Verden Studios Demo Project 15, Edinburgh College of Art graduate Rachel Alice Johnson has spent the past twelve months busy working on her sound, which draws influences from the likes of Lana Del Rey, Wolf Alice, Royal Blood and The Black Keys.

After hearing Johnson’s music at the Wide Days A&R You Brave Enough? session back in April, The Skinny are delighted to be premiering the video for the track we heard that day – I Won't Remember You. We think she has a lot of potential and are excited to see what the future holds for her.

Of the song Johnson says: “I Won't Remember You is essentially a song about cleansing, in which I replicated visually for its music video. Initially written as a melancholic piano ballad, I brought the song to my band for experimentation purposes, attempting to marry its concoction of angst and acceptance.

“The emphasis on bass distortions naturally provoked a satisfying heated darkness, and in turn developed the song's atmosphere of grit. Its cinematic conclusion is a nod to a personal closed chapter; a realisation of the past and an awoken resilience.”

Rachel Alice Johnson plays Sneaky Pete's, Edinburgh, 16 Jul.
