James Smith, aka Good Good Blood, released his debut album Songs From Where I Live last month via New York label, Team Love Records. On this record, Smith takes his gift for delicate songwriting and directs it toward a personal account of his own experiences. Written and recorded at home during the first week of the year, the album was born out of a long bout of depression where the act of musical creativity was cathartic and self-affirming. Lyrical themes on the record include mental health, family, and ultimately the grounding embrace of the small town in northern England town where Smith lives.

Of the video, Smith tells us: "I captured the footage in and around the small town where I live and then Autumn [Seguin] at Team Love added some really nice bits too. I love the fact it has a bit of my town and a bit of New Paltz, [NY,] USA in there. The overall idea behind the video was that the song kind of has two halves, a dark half and a light half and I wanted the visuals to reflect that.

“Thematically the song is about how I was shutting down and telling everyone and everything to go away but really all I wanted was for everyone and everything to stay close to me. I guess the line ‘Away, away / Heaven knows I love you,’ kind of sums up the thoughts and feelings I was having when I wrote it.”
