Firestations – Receiver (Track Premiere)

Listen to the new single Receiver from London five-piece Firestations

Feature by Music Team | 15 Feb 2018

London’s Firestations are Mike Cranny, Laura Copsey, Martin Thompson, Giles Littleford and Tom Hargreaves. The five-piece are set to release their latest album The Year Dot via our favourite Eigg-based label Lost Map Records. The album, set for release on 6 April, will take on the physical characteristics of a lovely waxy circle, and for the futuristic among us it will also be available both digitally and via all major streaming service.

The Skinny are delighted to be premiering Firestations' latest single, Receiver, which you can listen to in the player below or over on SoundCloud. Taken from their upcoming album, Receiver is a punchy slice of guitar-driven indie-pop full of infectious melodies, hazy vocals and hypnotic synths.

“‘You are the receiver, you get the message’, this begins as a song about feeling adrift and forgotten, that you're not getting yourself across to anyone and sort of operating under the surface,” Firestations’ singer-songwriter Mike Cranny tells us of Receiver. “Then the chorus comes along, followed by a rare (for us) cathartic guitar solo, and it's more about the joy of finding someone who understands you and just knowing that they're in the world making everything bearable somehow. You send out a signal and hope that it reaches someone – it’s our dystopian sci-fi electro-pop love song.”

Receiver is out on 16 Feb via all the usual streaming services; The Year Dot is set for release on 6 Apr via Lost Map Records
