Following their beautiful set at our Eclectica Experiment show at The Caves in Edinburgh last week, we're delighted to premiere the new music video from Edinburgh songwriter and visual artist Faith Eliott. A regular collaborator with Song, by Toad labelmate Meursault, Faith's sound blends densely-packed lyrics with plaintive guitar melodies. Describing the story behind this new standalone track, Eliott says: "Katie was one of those rare songs that just started writing itself whilst I was walking home one night and was finished within an hour of picking up my guitar.

"I think I was undergoing a bit of a sea-change in the way I felt about myself and the world at the time, and the lyrics are essentially a plunge into the existential whirlpool of all the thoughts I was having. I decided to release the track as a stand-alone single because it feels like a complete idea, and doesn’t really sit with most of my other songs, which tend to be shrouded in metaphors and more abstract narratives.

"The video was filmed in my bedroom in Leith. I’m a visual artist as well as a songwriter and my room is full of stuff I’ve made or squirrelled away over the years. It seemed like the natural thing to do to make something that reflected the straightforwardness of the lyrics. Almost like a document of my little world at this specific point in my life."

Catch Faith Eliott supporting Storm the Palace at their album launch shows at The Slaughtered Lamb, London on 6 May and Wee Red Bar, Edinburgh on 14 May; Faith also plays Coastword festival in Dunbar on 20 May.
