Andrew Wasylyk is the alias of Scottish writer, producer and multi-instrumentalist Andrew Mitchell. On his latest offering, Themes For Buildings and Spaces, Wasylyk invites the listener to explore his hometown of Dundee. Eight architectural sites and open spaces have inspired an album of compositions echoing the materials, everyday use and romanticised memories of a post-war cityscape continually shifting and evolving throughout the decades.

The Skinny are delighted to be premiering the live session music video for Under High Blue Skies. Wasylyk tells us: "Each track on Themes For Buildings and Spaces was written with a specific Dundee location in mind. Under High Blue Skies is an effort to echo the materials used in the brutalism of Dundee University’s Matthew Building. I find its looming ocean liner-like design very graceful, melancholic, and just enough cumbersome.

“The album’s live premiere takes place on 29 May with a nine-piece ensemble at Dundee Design Festival in West Ward Works, a former print works building for a host of DC Thomson’s publications, including The Broons, Oor Wullie and The Beano. To me, it is an ideal setting to perform these songs, to romanticise and (quietly) celebrate in a setting that was pivotal in Dundee’s heritage."
