In Session: Outblinker – 'Orange'

Video by News Team | 02 Oct 2015

Ahead of their appearance at the Pleasance Sessions next weekend (Saturday, 9 October) alongside Blanck Mass, BDY_PRTS and RM Hubbert, we joined Outblinker in their Cambuslang rehearsal bunker where they threw down a remarkable (as yet unreleased) slow-burner called Orange.

"Orange – whose temporary name was inspired by our Queen-loving, uniformed, marching-band neighbours in the Outblinker practice space in Glasgow – is an embryonic live version of a track that has just been recorded in Orkney with our friend and producer Ben Power," explains the band's Chris Cusack. "It will be appearing, fully fledged, on our debut album, due for release in Spring 2016."

Speaking to The Skinny recently, they laid out their manifesto: “We’re all from bands where there’s quite a lot of maths in the timings – you’re counting to five, then you’re counting to seven, and you’re waiting to see how long it will take for the drummer to pick up his next stick – and with Outblinker, it was like wanting something that people can dance to. I don’t mean that as in, ‘let’s turn into Fatboy Slim’. Rather, doing something that is expansive and open to interpretation each time we play, so that every show is different and people can really get into this, regardless of their background or knowledge of music.”
