Glasgow-based Irish singer-songwriter Martha Ffion, full name Claire Martha Ffion McKay, is set to release her debut long player Sunday Best on 9 March via Turnstile (Cate Le Bon / Gruff Rhys). The latest single to be taken from the album, Baltimore is a soothing slice of country that you’d be just as happy dreamily swaying to as you would be waltzing round your kitchen.

The Skinny are delighted to be premiering the single’s accompanying music video which you can watch in the player above or on YouTube; filmed by Taylor Stewart it has the warmth of an old-fashioned home video and it perfectly captures the feel of the song.

“Baltimore came about as I was playing about with a chord progression and melody which felt quite country,” McKay tells us. “I took it as an opportunity to poke a bit of fun at some of the misogyny in traditional country music, where women are often depicted as 'the devil' or 'the ball and chain'. I wanted to portray a more sympathetic and realistic female character but also to avoid making anyone a hero or a villain.

“It was fun to do a bit more storytelling with the songs on the album,” McKay continues. “The video is really just a tribute to my lovely band to commemorate this whole period we've experienced together – recording and touring. We just messed about and played with Lewis' cat Tony Soprano and let our friend Taylor Stewart work his magic. The credits are by the awesome Douglas Pattison who does all the artwork.

“P.S. Tony went into the drum of his own volition… and nested there for several hours after filming.”

Sunday Best is released on 9 Mar via Turnstile. Martha Ffion plays Clwb Ifor Bach, Cardiff, 7 Mar; The Waiting Room, London, 8 Mar; Sneaky Pete's, Edinburgh, 9 Mar; Mono, Glasgow, 10 Mar; Think Tank, Newcastle, 11 Mar
