William Douglas is one of Edinburgh's many impressive unsigned talents and so tonight the crowd were happily transported into his world. In the art of song-writing, the music often overrides the lyrics but tonight William turned this idea on its head. His songs use both ingredients equally to intricately weave his sweet words into a delightful melodical smoothie. Performing mostly new material and oldies such as Circle in a Square in the tradition of Bob Dylan, Douglas appears as a gifted songwriter and a truly natural performer. Indeed, following William down to The Royal Oak to hear more of his wares, an old man by the fire quite wisely commented "It's one thing to be able to write a song but it's another to be able to perform". Give your ears some TLC and hear him play. [Tiger Reid]
