Gigs in Edinburgh

Neon Waltz @ Sneaky Pete's, 6 Sep
Having finally dropped their long-awaited debut album Strange Hymns last month, Caithness' finest are back on the road again. Catch the six-piece's dreamy hook-laden pop at Sneaky's, and read our recent chat with the band about life on tour, and recording in some of the most remote parts of the country.

And Yet It Moves @ Sneaky Pete's, 7 Sep
The new group from former Amazing Snakeheads frontman Dale Barclay, it would be wrong to expect anything other than a frenetic and captivating set from And Yet It Moves. They also play Glasgow's Broadcast, 5 Sep.

Meursault @ Henry's Cellar Bar, 9 Sep
The Song, by Toad stalwart and Scottish Album of the Year nominee plays a hometown show in the intimate subterranean confines of Henry's, with support from Sam Goodwill and Hailey Beavis.

Pinact @ Sneaky Pete’s, 10 Sep
Glasgow-based Pinact just released The Part That No One Knows at the end of August, their follow-up to 2015’s Stand Still and Riot, and we reckon it’s one of the best rock albums we’ve heard this year. Signed to Brooklyn-based label Kanine Records, they’ve a pretty solid US tour coming up so be sure to catch them at Sneaky’s before they head off. Tonight’s support comes in the form of Glasgow duo WOMPS.

Gigs in Glasgow

Matthew Bourne @ Platform, 8 Sep
Improvisational pianist and composer Matthew Bourne follows up last year's Moogmemory record – the first album recorded entirely on the infamously unruly Memorymoog synth – with new piano work Isotach. Expect sparse but beautifully-arranged sounds to ring out across Easterhouse.

Living Body @ Hug and Pint, 8 Sep
Living Body are something of an indie supergroup, featuring Jeff T. Smith (formerly of Juffage), Katie Harkin (also of Sky Larkin, and a touring member of Wild Beasts and Sleater-Kinney) and members of Vessels, Mayshe-Mayshe and the Mark E. Smith-endorsed Esper Scout. Catch them at the Hug and Pint tonight, or at Sneaky Pete's in Edinburgh on 9 Sep.

Margaret Glaspy @ CCA, 9 Sep
Glaspy's debut LP Emotions and Math is packed with raw, beautiful songs buoyed by her unique voice and characterful guitar work. Live, she's a revelation – when we caught her in Manchester last year, we dubbed her "one of the year's most compelling live acts".

Girlpool @ Stereo, 9 Sep
Girlpool's new album Powerplant earned a five-star review from us earlier this year, its "lullaby-like melodies drawing from you that which is so deeply buried you don’t even know it exists". The band bring their newly-expanded sound to Stereo this weekend.

The Veils @ The Garage, 9 Sep
You may have seen the London five-piece in the latest series of Twin Peaks; now it's time to catch their atmospheric sound in the flesh. Frontman Finn Andrews shared some of his favourite tracks with us earlier in the summer – read his Guest Selector choices here.

Gig of the Week

Chastity Belt @ Broadcast, Glasgow, 8 Sep
Seattle-based indie rockers Chastity Belt are touring this autumn off the back of releasing their third long player, I Used to Spend So Much Time Alone, released back at the start of June via Hardly Art. Expect witty and cutting lyrics from the four-piece, fused with a fun live performance in the intimate surrounds of Glasgow’s Broadcast. It’s their only Scottish date, don't be a dafty and miss it; oh, and there’s support from Phillip Taylor of PAWS’ new band, Kælling.
