Live music in Glasgow

The Comet is Coming @ O2 ABC, 8 Mar

Experimental cosmic funk inspired by everything from Sun Ra and Funkadelic to the BBC Radiophonic Workshop, the best thing to do is expect the unexpected from the Mercury Prize-nominated trio.

Laura Marling @ O2 ABC, 10 Mar

Hot on the heels of her performance with the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra to kick off this year's Celtic Connections festival, Marling returns to town with new album Semper FeminaExpect more finely wrought vignettes on love and loss, expertly presented by an artist at the top of her game.

The Little Kicks @ The Hug & Pint, 10 Mar

The Aberdeen four-piece are back with album number four; Shake Off Your Troubles is a set of carefully crafted indie-pop songs, swollen with strings, synths and a quietly garnered ambitious self-assurance. Catch them at the Hug & Pint on Friday; they play the Voodoo Rooms in Edinburgh on Saturday.

Vukovi @ King Tut's, 10 Mar

Glasgow-based rock four-piece Vukovi, fronted by Janine Shilstone, release their much anticipated self-titled debut album this month. In fact, it comes out on the exact date of this gig. Convenient or what? Head down for a blast of Vukovi's high-energy sound, and find out more about the bands that have shaped their sound with Vukovi's Under the Influence playlist.

Live music in Edinburgh

Glass Animals @ Liquid Room, 8 & 9 Mar

The people of Edinburgh just can't get enough of Glass Animals – the Oxford quartet play not one but two nights at the Liquid Room in support of their latest album How to Be a Human Being.

Lee Scratch Perry @ La Belle Angele, 9 Mar

He's been producing music since the late 1960s, and now the reggae and dub legend returns to Edinburgh for a show at La Belle Angele.

Gig of the Week

Mitski @ Electric Circus, 10 Feb

In the wake of the sad news of plans to close Electric Circus later this month, what better way to begin its farewell lap than with New York songwriter Mitski? Bask in the rich, confessional glory of tracks from Puberty 2, but not before taking in the spiky power-pop from tour support and fellow Skinny favourites Personal Best. Then, post-gig, stick around for Skinny Bitches, a club night piloted by the women of The Skinny playing their favourite feminist anthems, break-up bangers and the odd bit of Björk, probably.
