Gigs in Edinburgh this week

Le Thug, Plastic Animals, DTHPDL @ Leith Depot, 5 Jul
Song, by Toad's Le Thug play their first Edinburgh show in some time, with support from "atmospheric punk-rock sludge" merchants Plastic Animals and hook-laden krautrock four-piece DTHPDL.

Yorkston / Thorne / Khan @ Summerhall, 5 Jul
YTK is a three-part collaboration between James Yorkston of the East Neuk of Fife, New Delhi’s Suhail Yusuf Khan and Jon Thorne of the Isle of Wight. They wed traditional Anglo-Celtic folk music to throbbing jazz basslines; if that sounds like a pretty eclectic mix of styles, you'd be right. And if that sounds like a tremendous treat, you'd be doubly right.

Picks of the Week

Festival season is well and truly upon us, and one of the most hotly-anticipated sets of the summer comes from Radiohead, headlining the first night of the TRNSMT festival at Glasgow Green (7 Jul) in their first Scottish gig since 2008. Belle & Sebastian take up the main support duties, but be sure to head down early to catch a trio of our favourite new Scottish acts on the second stage – Wuh Oh (2.30pm), The Vegan Leather (3.35pm) and Be Charlotte (4.40pm).

If you fancy a festival adventure on a slightly smaller scale, head through to Stirling for the Strange Behaviours Summer Party at Tolbooth (8 Jul). A multi-stage, eclectic and diverse mini-festival, there’s indie-punk from PAWS, hip-hop from Loki, garage-pop from Domino signees Spinning Coin, slacker-pop from Passion Pusher and loads more.

Gigs in Glasgow this week

Callum Easter @ The Old Hairdresser's, 8 Jul
Delete Forever is the second in what will be a triptych of mini-albums from Edinburgh producer Callum Easter that delve into a very personal darkness, a Blake-ian state that involves troughs and peaks of emotional extremes. He launches the record tonight, with support from Soonbe and Iklan Sound.

Joyce Manor + Martha @ Stereo, 10 Jul
A fun-packed double-bill at Stereo tonight, as Cali-hailing pop-punk outfit Joyce Manor are joined by Durham's own Martha. We caught up with Martha's Nathan Stephens-Griffin earlier this year to talk punk in 2017, the death of subculture and the importance of indie labels like Fortuna POP! – read the results of that chat here
