Gigs in Edinburgh

Vukovi @ The Mash House, 24 May
Angsty Glasgow four-piece Vukovi head east with tracks from their self-titled debut album. We caught up with the band earlier this year to find out which bands have influenced their sound – read their thoughts on Paramore, PJ Harvey and more here.

Hidden Door: Anna Meredith, FOUND, Bdy_Prts & Marnie @ Leith Theatre, 26 May
The opening night of this year's Hidden Door festival brings together four of Scotland's most intriguing acts. Topping the bill is Scottish Album of the Year award-winner Anna Meredith, and she's joined by FOUND, Bdy_Prts, and the sleek electro of Ladytron vocalist Helen Marnie. The following night, indie mainstays Idlewild are joined by Lost Map duo Manuela alongside Hamish Hawk and Dama Scout.

Mt. Doubt @ Sneaky Pete's, 26 May
Leo Bargery's indie collective present tracks from new EP The Loneliness of the TV Watchers; support comes from Posable Action Figures, Life Model, and David James Ritchie.

Gig of the Week

Pinegrove @ Summerhall, 29 May
On their last trip to Scotland, at a sold-out Hug & Pint, we said that Evan Stephens Hall and co were destined for bigger things – here they are just nine months later, with a headline show at Edinburgh's Summerhall. Luxuriate in the band's Americana-inflected take on 90s emo, and get down early for a solo support set from Dan Willson, aka Withered Hand.

Gigs in Glasgow

Sad13 @ Hug & Pint, 23 May
Sad13 is the solo project of Speedy Ortiz' Sadie Dupuis, and last year's Slugger LP is an empowering, feminist take on modern pop. Dupuis told us all about the stories and ideas behind the record in November – read our interview here

The SAY Award: Live at the Longlist @ O2 ABC, 24 May
Admiral Fallow, Mungo's Hi Fi and the Beta Band's Steve Mason help launch the twenty-strong longlist for this year's Scottish Album of the Year Award.

Parekh & Singh @ Hug & Pint, 25 May
"Do you like music to give you a hug and a kiss, and to tell you everything is going to be alright?" Kolkata dream-pop duo Parekh & Singh are the band for you; catch them at the Hug & Pint this week.

Pronto Mama @ The Art School, 26 May
With their debut album Any Joy out now on the venerable student-run Electric Honey label, join Glasgow six-piece Pronto Mama for an evening of genre-defying multi-instrumentalism.

Savage Mansion @ Hug & Pint, 26 May
Slacker-pop four-piece Savage Mansion celebrate the release of their debut single for Johnny Lynch's Lost Map label with a launch show at the Hug & Pint – watch the video for Do You Say Hello to Your Neighbours? here.

Leftfield @ Barrowlands, 26 May
22 years on from the release of the classic Leftism, Leftfield present the seminal album in full at the Barrowlands. Neil Barnes and Paul Daley talked us through the albums which influenced them; read their thoughts here.

Afghan Whigs @ O2 ABC, 27 May
Greg Dulli and co are as complex, contrary, savage, and as glorious as they have ever been on their new album In Spades; catch them playing tracks from the new record under the ABC's giant disco ball.

BMX Bandits @ St Luke's, 27 May
One of indie-pop's greatest survivors, Duglas T Stewart presents tracks from the tenth BMX Bandits record, BMX Bandits Forever. Support comes from Glasgow indie quartet Spinning Coin.

Julie Byrne @ CCA, 28 May
Byrne's latest album Not Even Happiness picked up a four-star review from us on its release at the start of the year; hear the New York songwriter's atmospheric folk in person at the CCA.
