Live music in Edinburgh

Her's @ Sneaky Pete's, 16 May
The Liverpool dreampop duo (and their Pierce Brosnan-decorated drum machine) have been making waves since this time last year, and released compilation/collection Songs of Her's earlier this month. Support comes from Gav Prentice's ULTRAS project.

Meursault @ Henry's Cellar Bar, 16 May
Neil Pennycook presents tracks from I Will Kill Again, the first Meursault album since 2014, at Henry's. Support comes in the form of the neo-folk of Calgary's Foonyap.

Lush Purr @ Leith Depot, 18 May
If you missed them at The Old Hairdresser's in Glasgow last week then you can catch them in Edinburgh this week as they continue to celebrate the vinyl release of their Cuckoo Waltz album via Edinburgh label Song, by Toad. Support comes from Plastic Animals and The Doozer.

Belako @ Sneaky Pete's, 21 May
Basque country post-punks Belako have played the likes of Primavera, BBK Live, Benicassim and Low Festival; this week they hit Sneaky's on their UK tour, with support from psych merchants Barstow Bats and "loosely termed '"musicians"' and excellent spellers" Nice Church. Catch them at Glasgow's Bloc+ on 23 May.

Gig of the Week

Running Up That Hill: A Celebration of Kate Bush @ O2 ABC, 20 May
A night celebrating the music of Kate Bush you say? Kate Bush is frickin’ amazing, so count us in! Curated by and featuring Emma Pollock, she’ll be joined on the night by Peter Brewis (Field Music), James Graham (The Twilight Sad), Roddy Hart, Sarah Hayes (Admiral Fallow), Kathryn Joseph, Karine Polwart, Rachel Sermanni and Kathryn Williams, and all will be accompanied by a band and string quartet. Until then, hopefully you won’t have bad dreams in the night, and if you do, dream of sheep.

Live music in Glasgow

Metronomy @ O2 ABC, 16 May
Joseph Mount and co return to Glasgow with tracks from Summer 08 just in time to catch the two or three days of sunshine we're due this year. We caught up with Mount to talk about the album, touring, and working with Robyn and Mix Master Mike; be sure to get down early to catch hyper-fun Glasgow r'n'b duo Bossy Love.

Damo Suzuki @ Stereo, 20 May
The one-time Can vocalist returns for a night of experimental sounds, backed by a band comprising members of Happy Meals, Gummy Stumps, Breakfast Muff, Sean Armstrong Trio and First Temple of the Atom. The next night in Edinburgh, Suzuki is accompanied by members of Wozniak, Optic Nerve & Saint Jude's Infirmary.

The Goon Sax @ Mono, 20 May
Their debut LP Up To Anything is a prime example of everything that’s good about indie-pop, and now fresh-faced Australian trio Louis Forster, Riley Jones and James Harrison bring their delightfully low-key sound to Mono.

Homeshake @ CCA, 20 May
Homeshake is the solo project of Montreal-based singer songwriter and musician Peter Sagar, probably best known as the former guitarist for Mac DeMarco’s live band. Sagar has been busy touring his third studio album Fresh Air in the States, since its release earlier this year, and finally makes his way to Glasgow today where you can expect to be blissed out by his funk-fuelled, electronic take on soulful r'n’b. It really is as lovely as it sounds.

Jeff Rosenstock @ Stereo, 21 May
The Long Island ska-punk veteran returns with a headline show at Stereo, with support from London indie trio Doe.
