Live music in Glasgow

Ladyhawke @ The Art School, 9 Feb

The New Zealand songwriter returns to Glasgow with her blend of synth-pop, new wave, and AOR; support comes from multi-instrumentalist synth pop duo ISLE – we premiered their video for new track Faults at the turn of the year, watch it here.

Duke Garwood @ King Tut's, 10 Feb

Bringing to mind "a slightly more soulful Mark Lanegan or a slightly less doom-stricken Nick Cave", the London instrumentalist and former Lanegan collaborator presents new album Garden of Ashes at Tut's.

Nadia Reid @ Broadcast, 12 Feb

Also hailing all the way from New Zealand, Nadia Reid hits Broadcast with tracks from new record Preservation, the follow-up album to her 2014 debut. With a voice reminiscent of Laura Marling or Julia Jacklin that really makes you stop and take notice, we know it sounds clichéd but we think Nadia Reid is one to watch.

Live Music in Edinburgh

Cymbals Eat Guitars @ Electric Circus, 7 Feb

The Staten Island indie quartet kick off their European tour at Electric Circus, playing tracks from their most recent album Pretty Years.

Carla dal Forno @ Paradise Palms, 8 Feb

The lovely Berlin-based Australian singer and multi-instrumentalist Carla dal Forno (F ingers / Tarcar) is heading our way to play us some lovely music. Having just released her debut solo album You Know What it’s Like via Blackest Ever Black, we’re excited to catch her haunting experimental music in a live setting. A free show, so if you’re heading over, best get down sharpish; she also plays Hug & Pint in Glasgow on 7 Feb.

Sacred Paws @ Summerhall, 10 Feb

Glasgow/London duo Sacred Paws formed in 2014 when guitarist and vocalist Rachel Aggs and drummer Eilidh Rogers’ former band Golden Grrrls called it a day. Together as Sacred Paws they create a unique combo of angular post-punk and African highlife stomp. Celebrating the release of their debut album Strike a Match on Rock Action, NEHH and Braw Gigs bring them to Edinburgh with support from Spinning Coin and The Doozer.

Pick of the Week

Kid Canaveral's Lumber Party II @ Stereo, 11 Feb

The Lost Map crew present a Valentine's-inspired night at Stereo, joined by Kathryn Joseph, HQFU and nun-inspired cover band Rides of Christ (featuring members of KC and eagleowl). We premiered the video for new single Callous Parting Gift earlier this week – watch it here, with the added bonus of the band's open letter to St Valentine, "patron saint of spousal friction and tacky obligation".
