Now Wave and Soup Kitchen are teaming up this week to bring us soulful Canadian producer, songwriter and vocalist Jessy Lanza. She returns with Oh No, her follow-up to 2013’s debut, Pull My Hair Back. Clearly Lanza hasn't lost her touch, with Oh No shortlisted for this year's Polaris Music Prize much like its predecessor. Soup Kitchen, 7.30pm, £10

Brash Canadian hardcore punk group (and former Polaris Music Prize winners) Fucked Up head on over from their native Toronto for a right ol’ rollicking at Deaf Institute. Deaf Institute, 7.30pm, £15

Washington’s power-pop group The Posies, formed back in 1987 by lead songwriters Jon Auer and Ken Stringfellow, hit stages with a barrage of new live dates, all in the name of new release, Solid States. Night & Day Café, 8pm, £17.50

After serving up a sterling effort at Neighbourhood Festival a few weeks back, Manchester-based five-piece Cabbage return with more of their satirical neo post-punk, showing us it’s a time to be neither half-arsed nor quiet about politics – and that live music is one of the best outlets for such righteous fury. The Ruby Lounge, 8pm, £6

Following a mesmerising live set at FutureEverything a couple of years back in support of his solo debut, The Redeemer, the mercurial Dean Blunt returns to Manchester – this time, as the spearhead of Hyperdub signing Babyfather, who play in support of their debut EP, BFF. Soup Kitchen, 7.30pm, £9-£15

Sat 29 Oct

Gear up for Halloween with the only man for the job, as the ‘master of horror’ himself, John Carpenter, stops by to showcase spine-tingling tunes from his new album, Lost Themes II, as part of his Release the Bats tour. Victoria Warehouse, 8pm, £32.50

Sun 30 Oct

And for Halloween proper, we’ll be hitting up Psycho Live, which sees Hitchcock’s 1961 horror masterpiece brought to life by a chilling live score – handled ably by Manchester Camerata – in one of the city’s favourite eerie old buildings... Albert Hall, 4pm & 8pm, £30-£35
