Wed 7 Dec

London punk trio Slowcoaches describe their chosen sound as "slack metal", but that doesn't come close to describing the raggedy thrills of their just-released debut album Nothing Gives. Local punk troupes Down & OutsStadt Skulls and Pardon Us get you warmed up on a cold Wednesday night.
Maguire's Pizza Bar, 7.30pm, £4

Plenty going on this Friday, so let's start with the ridiculous, and arrive at the sublime somewhere along the way. Galactic Empire are a heavy rock outfit comprising the most notorious figures from the Star Wars universe. Honestly. Ever wanted to see Darth Vadar jam on the Imperial March? Now's your chance.
Arts Club, 6.30pm, £10

Meanwhile, Merseyside's finest and sunniest melodicists Hooton Tennis Club celebrate yet another marvellous year with a show at the Invisible Wind Factory, with backing from none other then Psycho Comedy and the day-glo explosion of sound that is Pink Kink. Guaranteed good times.
Invisible Wind Factory, 7pm, £9

Having only just spoiled us with a colossal line-up at their recent third birthday bash, Yeah Buddy DIY present a mighty Christmas party starring Leeds supergroup Living Body, with help from DisastronautsGod On My RightPeaksTake No Offence and Dangerously Canadian. Season's tidings!
Maguire's Pizza Bar, 6pm, £5

... And of course it wouldn't be Christmas without an appearance from Roy Wood. Yes, the Wizzard frontman and ELO founder plays his festive favourite I Wish It Could Be Christmas Every Day at the Phil, and probably a few more songs too. Get yer toy trumpets ready.
Liverpool Philharmonic Hall, £7.30pm, £24.50-34.50

Sat 10 Dec

Uncle Acid & The Deadbeats are a psychedelic doom band hailing from Cambridge, drawing influences from late 60s metal, but you'll more likely know 'em as the band behind last year's mighty The Night Creeper opus. Watch 'em melt faces in person at the Arts Club.
Arts Club, 7pm, £13.50

Sun 11 Dec

A supergroup, you say? Featuring members of Mogwai, Slowdive and Editors? And they're fucking amazing? Well, naturally – Minor Victories' debut was one of 2016's underappreciated marvels, and they bring its cinematic scope and luscious melodies to the live arena for what promises to be an unforgettable show.
Magnet, 7pm, £14.50
