Wed 18 Jan

A night of local talent to kick us off: local alt rockers We Were Glue have been compared to the likes of Circa Waves thanks to bouncy singalongs like last year's single My Girl, while Maldito's approach is a heftier, bluesier beast and Niko And The Touch inject a healthy dose of disco to the evening. It all kicks off with the rifftastic emo-pop of 18 Months – not bad for a Wednesday. The Magnet, 8.30pm, £3

Thu 19 Jan

Liverpool tech-metallers Oceanis top a mightily heavy bill over in Maguire's tonight, with Chicago's Snow Burial also in town. The latter describe themselves as "post-post-metal with hipster doom influences", but it's the likes of Deftones that are most apparent in their textured racket. Sleaze-rockers Novacrow and 'brickcore' proponents NOED are also on hand to bring the curtains up. Maguire's Pizza Bar, 8pm, £4 adv/£5.50 otd

It's an evening of full-on grime/hip-hop frenzy over at Kitchen Street – Jack The Mic 1 brings together some of the city's finest rhymesayers for what they describe as "a night of live perfomances and cyphering." Acts down to perform on the night include Beyond Average, The Bluntskins, Tony Broke, Chedeye Knights, That's Juvey?, Niggy Raw and Kraze24 Kitchen Street, 8.30pm, £8

Fri 20 Jan

London noineniks Dream Wife turned in an incendiary performance at Liverpool Music Week on their last visit to these shires, and this is the perfect opportunity to have your mind blown by them all over again. Local dreampop duo Her's, pop sophisticates HAARM and the newly-expanded AGP provide sterling support – no excuse not to get down early. Buyers Club, 7pm, £7

San Diego resident King Schascha is genuine ska royalty. You might know him from his time as chief toaster within the ranks of Dave Wakeling's English Beat, or via his performances with Sister Nancy, Squeeze, Soul Asylum, UB40, The B-52s, The Interrupters, Culture Club or Berlin. However you know him, or even if you don't at all, his live shows are guaranteed to be unifying, positive experiences: catch him while you can. Zanzibar, 7.30pm, £5-10

Speaking of royalty, Fife's own Kenny 'King Creosote' Anderson made yet another fine album last year in the form of Astronaut Meets Appleman. A mature and reflective offering, it's gathered praise across the board and looks set to firmly establish itself as another favourite from the Fence veteran: don't miss this opportunity to see it played in the flesh. Philharmonic, 8pm, £18.50-24.50

Sat 21 Jan

It's another hefty line-up as the inaugural Club.The.Mammoth. All-Dayer comes to the Arts Club. A sterling bill of post-punk and noisy types includes the indefatigable Mark E Smith and The Fall, Hookworms, Eagulls, Tigercub, Kagoule, Cabbage, Goat Girl, Strange CollectiveOhmns and Pink Kink – not to be sniffed at. Oh yeah, and you can head here for your chance to win tickets, if you're so inclined. YOU'RE WELCOME.
Arts Club, £30, 4.30pm

Rising country singer Margo Price has been turning heads since last year's debut album Midwest Farmer's Daughter dropped via Jack White's Third Man label last year, and with this date already sold out you'll likely have to resort to nefarious means (NOT THAT WE CONDONE THAT SORT OF THING) if you want to head along. Still, fans of Laura Cantrell, Jenny Lewis or Allison Krauss' more upbeat moments are likely to find themselves smitten. Leaf, 8pm, £13

Another night of local heroes sees the Morricone-infused Red Rum Club take over the Zanzibar with their stadium-sized anthems and singalong choruses. Sprightly rock'n'roll types Little Triggers, zeitgeist-slaying alt-poppers NYTCLUB and snappy indie foursome The Bad Habits are also on hand to ensure that no one goes home without a smile on their faces.
Zanzibar, 7pm, £5
