Gigs in Edinburgh this week

CRYSTAL @ Sneaky Pete's, 27 Jul
The Glasgow grunge-fuelled, glam-punk four-piece recently impressed on The Skinny's stage at Kelburn Garden Party so we highly recommend getting along to Sneaky's tonight for some catchy-as-hell tunes from this exciting young band. Support comes from Edinburgh bands' The Motion Poets and WYLDE.

Callum Easter @ Paradise Palms, 28 Jul
Tonight sees a brand new monthly night launch at Paradise Palms called Many Animals. The inaugural night will feature Edinburgh singer, songwriter and producer Callum Easter who is set to play some of his favourite music as well as showcasing some of his recently completed debut album Here or Nowhere.

Super Inuit + Bless This Machine @ The Safari Lounge, 28 Jul
A couple of us at The Skinny are launching a new night called Supper Club tonight with a couple of pals – Supper Club #1 will hopefully be the first of many lovely nights to come and we have the awesome ambient electronic duo Super Inuit playing as well as Edinburgh electronic collective Bless This Machine. Lovely.

Amy Duncan + Candythief + Mock Deer @ Sneaky Pete's, 29 Jul
Edinburgh-based singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Amy Duncan plays Sneaky's tonight alongside self-taught London-based musician, Mock Deer and Edinburgh-based Candythief whose latest record, Imaginary Medals came out via Lexicon at the end of March.

Missy Mcanulty @ Sneaky Pete's, 30 Jul
Missy Mcanulty was introduced to us recently at this year’s Wide Days A&R You Brave Enough? panel where she submitted one of her tracks to be critiqued by a panel of judges in front of a room full of strangers. Nerve-wracking stuff indeed. But on this occasion it paid off with the Edinburgh-based pop singer-songwriter receiving a number of approving nods – Mcanulty’s tunes are pop through and through and seriously radio-ready; catch her tonight as she celebrates the launch of her latest single, Home.

Scottish Event of the Week

Fistymuffs EP Launch @ Leith Depot, 28 Jul
Edinburgh punk trio Fistymuffs release their debut EP, About Time, on Friday 27 July; an energetic onslaught about escaping abusive relationships, unwanted groping and rejecting patriarchal standards of body image and femininity. Influenced by the likes of X-Ray Spex and Bikini Kill, celebrate their EP launch at Leith Depot tonight where you can expect a high energy, emotionally raw and liberating night of unifying pop-punk.

MugStock Festival @ Mugdock Country Park, Milngavnie, 27-30 Jul
The weirdest named festival in all of the land, MugStock Festival (presumably a play on the infamous 60s hippie fest Woodstock) returns for its fourth year. The festival of 'music and merriment' will, this year, see performances from bands including Colonel Mustard & The Dijon 5, Kid Canaveral and, the incredibly named, Busker Rhymes.
