Gigs in Edinburgh this week

Goat Girl @ Sneaky Pete’s, 10 Apr
Goat Girl are part of a burgeoning, close-knit South London scene that also includes the likes of Shame, Warmduscher and Sorry. The woozy country-tinged four-piece – who are set to tour with Parquet Courts across the States later this year – released their eponymous debut album at the start of the month via Rough Trade, produced by Dan Carey (Kate Tempest / Franz Ferdinand), and tour the UK in celebration, stopping in at Sneaky Pete’s tonight.

Carla J. Easton @ Sneaky Pete's, 11 Apr
Carla J. Easton's new album is a synth-led collection of songs produced with an all-Canadian band during her time with former Arcade Fire drummer Howard Bilerman in Montreal. Catch her at Sneaky's with support from West Princes and Bite.

Eric Chenaux @ Henry's Cellar Bar, 13 Apr
'Post-modern troubadour' Chenaux brings his unique form of balladry to Henry's Cellar for a gig presented by local avant-garde faves Braw Gigs. Support comes from Glasgow songwriter Cheer.

Public Service Broadcasting @ Usher Hall, 14 Apr
Everyone's favourite archive-botherers Public Service Broadcasting return to Edinburgh tonight with latest album Every Valley, charting the rise and fall of the Welsh mining industry in emotional and enthralling detail. Support comes from the folk-pop-electronica of Jane Weaver.

Syria Benefit Gig @ Traverse, 14 Apr
An evening of great music for a good cause, this benefit gig features sets from Meursault, eagleowl, ballboy's Gordon McIntyre, The Just Joans and many more. All proceeds from this show will go to a pair of charities working in Syria.

Bryde @ Sneaky Pete's, 16 Apr
An evening of grungey indie rock from Wales-born, London-based songwriter Bryde – get a feel for her sound with recent single Peace, which premiered on the site last month.

Gig of the Week

[Hinds by Sarah Donley]

Hinds @ SWG3, Glasgow, 15 Apr
The lo-fi Madrid quartet have done it again, with new album I Don't Run proving to be yet another fantastic set of imaginative tracks packed with chunky riffs and hook-laden choruses. As they launch a somewhat-unlikely run at the Top 40, join Hinds for what should be an action-packed night at SWG3.

Gigs in Glasgow this week

Florist @ The Hug & Pint, 12 Apr
Expect an evening of melancholic loveliness from the indie-folk trio of Emily Sprague, Rick Spataro and Jonnie Baker, and be sure to head down early to catch alt folk singer-songwriter Zoe Graham.

Shame @ Stereo, 12 Apr
The aforementioned South London five-piece have been making waves in recent months in the wake of their debut album Songs of Praise. Experience Shame in the flesh at Stereo this week – at this rate they won't be in venues this size for much longer.

Girl Ray @ The Art School, 13 Apr
The North London trio blend wisdom, introspection and depth with fantastic harmonies and impressive vocals; they follow November's visit to Broadcast with a headline show at The Art School, support coming from Kamran Khan's Fake Laugh project.

Fenne Lily @ Stereo, 13 Apr
Bristol-based singer-songwriter Fenne Lily’s voice is delicate and full of vulnerability. Her debut album On Hold features her breakthrough single Top to Toe, self-released on 6 April. To coincide with the album, Lily and her newly assembled band will be making their way across the UK and Europe this month with Glasgow’s Stereo being her only Scottish date on the tour. You know what to do.

Porches @ Mono, 14 Apr
Following on from 2016’s Pool, Aaron Maine's third album as Porches – The House – is an incessantly earnest portrayal of love and regret, decay and change. Released at the start of the year via Domino, it's an album of rare balance and beauty so make sure you catch Porches in the flesh tonight at Glasgow’s Mono, which is one of only four UK dates on his upcoming tour and the only one in Scotland.

Arcade Fire @ SSE Hydro, 16 Apr
The Canadian ensemble were on fine form on their last visit to Scotland; Win Butler & co hit the Hydro this week for a very special in-the-round show.
