The Twilight Sad top Scottish Blogs and Music Sites ‘Album of 2014’ poll

Nobody Wants to Be Here and Nobody Wants to Leave by The Twilight Sad has been named as Scotland’s bloggers and music writers’ favourite album of 2014 after topping the annual BAMS poll.

More than thirty-five critics, writers and publications named their top ten albums from last year, with the fourth LP from James Graham and co beating Mogwai’s Rave Tapes and Strange Friend by The Phantom Band to the top spot.

Accepting the BAMS award for Nobody Wants to be Here..., Graham remarked: “I don’t want to be melodramatic and say it’s saved the band, but it kind of has in a way. When you release something you don’t really know [how it will be received]. You can like it as much as you want, but ultimately in the long run, people have got to like it to have any sort of success or be able to make another one.

“So to be voted number one for the BAMS is pretty mental for a miserable bunch of guys from Kilsyth. It’s great though. We really appreciate it, and things like this don’t happen to us all the time, so it’s really cool.”

The Twilight Sad are the sixth winners of the award, with Chvrches’ debut LP The Bones of What You Believe winning the prize in 2013. Meursault, Bill Wells & Aidan Moffat, The National and The Phantom Band have also won the award since its inception in 2009.

Here's a sparse rendition of the band's forthcoming single, I Could Give You All That You Don't Want, filmed at their Pleasance Session in Edinburgh last autumn.
