Track premiere: Atom Tree – 'Hold On'

Listen to an exclusive stream of Hold On by Glasgow synth trio Atom Tree, taken from their new EP Clouds.

The Clouds EP is Atom Tree’s second, following their "delicate" 2013 debut Tide of Thorns, which grabbed a four-star review from us last November. Clouds sees the band take a leap forward from ToT with the help of the “extra emotive whallop” of vocals by Julie Knox.

Comprised of Knox, producer Shaun Canning, and percussionist Michael Robertson, Atom Tree played the T Break stage at the final T in the Park at Balado, as well as putting in sets at Glasgow’s Simple Things festival and this summer’s Wickerman Festival.

Canning says: "In terms of progression my main goal last year was trying to find a vocalist and we done so in the form of Julie Knox. The vocals we believe have taken the instrumentals to a new level. The process is still the same. I'll sit and write an instrumental and then Julie and I work around that.

"It's been a fantastic year and we had said at the start if the year we really want to be playing the festivals as we felt that was the next step. The summer was a highlight in itself. Almost every weekend we were off to another festival. T in the Park was a special night for us and Wickerman was another cracker of a festival.

"In 2015 we will be focusing on our debut album and we hope to be playing more gigs around Europe as well. We just want to keep progressing and getting better that's the main goal."

Clouds by Atom Tree is out now on Hotgem. The band play Glasgow's SWG3 on 30 Nov, as part of the Kiltr Feastival of St Andrew event.
