Soundgarden share new song 'Storm' and announce rarities compilation

Feature by Dave Kerr | 28 Oct 2014

After a weekend which saw Soundgarden's early 90s side-project Temple of the Dog reunite for a one-off performance at Neil Young's Bridge School Benefit, today the Seattle veterans have quietly unveiled their first new material in two years and announced the details of a long-incubating B-sides and rarities project, Echo of Miles: Scattered Tracks Across the Path, curated by guitarist Kim Thayil.

Speaking of the three-disc set, which will take in everything from original B-sides to unreleased tracks, instrumentals, covers and demos, Thayil says: "As album sets go, this one has been fun to collect and compile over the decades. I personally may have referenced this project a number of times over the years, going back almost twenty of them to the mid-nineties!”

The song, understood to have been written by the band in its earliest incarnation, was finally recorded with Screaming Life producer Jack Endino in May of this year. Speaking of the session in a recent interview with Alternative Nation, he summarised the track as an 'oddball drony psych tune.' Hear it for yourself below.
