Much-loved Scottish indie band Idlewild look set to announce their full-scale return next month following a lengthy hiatus.

The band – whose 100 Broken Windows LP was named the Best Scottish Album of the last decade in The Skinny in 2009 – are set to make “a special announcement” on Steve Lamacq’s show on BBC 6 Music on 3 Nov.

Guitarist Rod Jones revealed on Twitter earlier this month that he has been mixing a new Idlewild album in New York. A new LP by the band would be their eighth studio release since forming in Edinburgh in 1995, and the first new record from the band since 2009's Post Electric Blues

The band launch an acoustic tour of the Scottish Highlands and Islands next week, with dates on Mull, Skye, Lewis and the Orkneys as well as in Ullapool, Strathpeffer, Findhorn, Aviemore, Banchory and Birnam.

Idlewild in 2014 are:

Rod Jones – guitar
Roddy Woomble – lead vocals
Colin Newton – drums
Luciano Rossi – keys
Andrew Mitchell – bass
