A Piece Of Non-Stück Up Dance Theatre

In a world of stuck up artists and pompous, self-celebrating art, Caroline Simon’s Stuck/Piece is a refreshing break from the stiffness of the contemporary art scene.

In this 40-minute solo piece, Simon takes an ironic look at contemporary dance by enacting an absurdly complex and clichéd choreography whilst talking the audience through what she’s doing and thinking. While laughing at them all, the talented performer plays every role of a dance show: choreographer, dancer, her dance partner, director, lights, projections, stage and props, even a chorus of 200 children singing Beethoven’s Ode To Joy!

In this original piece that has been defined as ‘stand-up dance comedy’, Simon directs her mocking look at both herself and a world she’s very much a part of. A skillful dancer and amusing comedian, Simon establishes a close relationship with the audience and draws them in her creatively crafted world of dance and self-irony making them an essential part of her show.

Stuck/Piece is a funny and innovative approach to dance: however, much of its comedy, the references and inside jokes thrown in between a pirouette and a salto would be lost on non-connoisseurs.
