Kendal Calling welcomes Suede, De La Soul, Happy Mondays and more

Taking place at Lowther Deer Park in the Lake District, the Kendal Calling Festival (1-3 Aug) offers an intimate and friendly alternative to the bigger, more established music festivals on the UK calendar, without scrimping on the big names – the headliners being announced today include Suede, and Frank Turner and the Sleeping Souls. Those with a taste for hip-hop and electronic music will find lots to entertain too, with sets from rap legends De La Soul, a DJ set from 2manydjs, and an appearance from the inimitable Happy Mondays.

Elsewhere, the festival will feature Tom Odell, Clean Bandit, Bondax, Gorgon City, Ella Ayre, Andy C, Newton Faulkner, Mr. Scruff, Goldie, Razorlight, Athlete, My Nu Leng, Reel Big Fish, The Heavy, Miles Kane, Dub Pistols, Lanterns on the Lake, DJ Food, Mint Royale and Zane Lowe.

There are stages for spoken word, comedy and performance art, and as has become the custom for more than a few boutique festivals, Kendal Calling features a fancy dress theme for attendees – this year it's 'Beyond The Stars.' Add to that gourmet food tents and a real ale festival taking place on site, and you have the recipe for one of the most appealing festivals in the country. Get more details and book tickets here.
