Edinburgh Art Festival's 2014 programme unveiled

Some highlights from the programme of this year's Edinburgh Art Festival have been revealed today, including the first UK exhibition outside London by leading contemporary artist Isa Genzken, and major new exhibitions from some of the world's most important and respected practitioners. Founded in 2004, the Edinburgh Art Festival will be celebrating a decade as the UK's largest annual celebration of visual art, with over a quarter of a million visitors last year, running in parallel with the Edinburgh International Festival and Fringe from 31 July to 31 August. Announced today for the 2014 Festival are major new exhibitions by artists Wim DelvoyeSusan HillerJohn Byrne and Leon Morrocco.

Over at the City Arts Centre, an international group show taking some of its themes from the Commonwealth Games and the year of Homecoming Scotland will showcase the work of 5 curators from 20 Commonwealth countries, ranging from video artists and filmmakers to sculptors, designers and conceptual creators – Where do I end and you begin will showcase emerging talent from New Zealand, South Africa, India, Canada and the UK, exploring some of the iconic myths that lie beneath the ideas of community, common-wealth and the commons. The exhibition will be curated by Aaron Kreisler (Dunedin, NZ), Thebminkosi Alfred Goniwe (Johannesburg, SA),Vidya Shivadas (New Delhi, IND), Kathleen Ritter (Vancouver, CA) and Richard Hylton (London, UK). Featured artists include India's Shilpa Gupta – whose neon work gives the exhibition its title – and Amar Kanwar, New Zealand's Steve Carr, South Africa's Mary Sibande and Canadian duo Brian Jungen and Duane Linklater.

On the classical side of things, at the Scottish National Gallery of Modern Art, there will be a major retrospective on the American Impressionist movement, featuring work by the likes of Degas, Monet, Sargent and Whistler.

As part of GENERATION, the ongoing celebration of 25 years of contemporary art in Scotland, taking place across 50 venues throughout the country, this year's EAF will feature Katie Paterson and Mick Peter at Jupiter Artland, and Dalziel + Scullion at Dovecot Studios, as well as more exhibitions by cutting-edge contemporary artists at the City Arts Centre and the Talbot Rice Gallery. More exhibitions, performances, installations and events will be announced soon, with the EAF's much-anticipated yearly programme of commissions to be announced in May, and the events programme to be revealed later in the year.
