First Batman: Arkham Knight gameplay footage revealed

The first gameplay footage from Batman: Arkham Knight, the concluding game in the critically-acclaimed Arkham series from UK developer Rocksteady Games, has been released online.

Arkham Knight – which will be a next-generation exclusive on Playstation 4, Xbox One and PC – will see the introduction of the Batmobile to the series, with the plot promising to “unite” many of the villains from across the Batman universe.

The gameplay trailer shows Batman rescuing hostages from an ACE Chemicals plant, while showing off new combat techniques such as the ‘Fear Takedown’ and highlighting the use of the Batmobile in gameplay.

The new title follows Rocksteady’s previous games featuring the caped crusader – 2009’s Arkham Asylum which won wide praise for its combat system, and 2011’s Arkham City, described by our reviewer as “a comics version of riot kettling” which plays “as smooth as a rubber catsuit”.

There have been further titles in the Batman stable since the release of City, with critical and commercial success for 2013’s Arkham Origins but a more mixed reaction for the handheld-only Arkham Origins: Blackgate.

Batman: Arkham Knight is set for release on 2 June 2015 on Playstation 4, Xbox One and Windows PC.
