New footage from early Oscar contender Birdman released

A new clip from dark meta-comedy Birdman, starring Michael Keaton as a washed-up former action movie star, has appeared online.

In Birdman, Keaton – who portrayed Batman in Tim Burton's 1989 film adaptation and reprised the role in 1992 sequel Batman Returns – plays Riggan Thompson, whose career has floundered since playing the titular superhero. The film charts Riggan’s attempts to return to the spotlight courtesy of a Broadway play, and has been tipped as an early contender for the 2015 awards season.

In the new clip, Riggan discusses his comeback play with his co-star Mike Shiner, played by Edward Norton. Birdman stars Keaton, Norton, Emma Stone and Naomi Watts, and is helmed by Amores Perros director Alejandro González Iñárritu.

Birdman or (The Unexpected Virtue of Ignorance) is released in the UK on 2 Jan 2015.
