Pixies announce 25th anniversary Doolittle reissue
Boston legends Pixies have unveiled a fifty-track anniversary edition of seminal LP Doolittle to mark 25 years since the album’s release.
The new three-disc edition features a host of previously-unreleased demos for ‘Wave of Mutilation’ and ‘Monkey Gone to Heaven’ among others, as well as two full sessions recorded for John Peel’s show on BBC Radio One and a collection of B-sides to singles taken from the album.
Doolittle was Pixies’ second album, and its ‘quiet-loud’ dynamic paved the way for the likes of Nirvana and Radiohead to follow. The album is estimated to have sold around a million copies in the US alone.
Reflecting on the band’s career earlier this year, Pixies guitarist Joey Santiago told The Skinny that, on its release, the band were still “trying to figure out” Doolittle. Santiago said: “We’re more gung-ho about things now, we go to shows and try to give the best show possible. Not to say that we didn’t do that in the beginning but right now we’re just totally conscious of it.
“It’s invigorating playing new songs, we’re still tweaking them. It took us a while to like playing the old stuff [again] because back then, around the time of Doolittle, we were really struggling with it live, trying to figure out the material.”
